Roland Roth – took his doctorate at the JWG University of Frankfurt, he obtained a professorship at the FU Berlin – worked as a Professor for Political Science at the Department for Social Welfare and Public Health of the College Magdeburg-Stendal (1993-2014), he was a Research Fellow at the University of California in Santa Cruz (UCSC), and at the Social Science Research Centre Berlin (WZB), as well as visiting professor at the University of Vienna.
His scientific and political interest lies predominantly in the subject areas of democracy, social movements, non-governmental organisations, civic involvement, civil rights and human rights. He is a co-founder of the „Committee for Fundamental Rights and Democracy“, he was an expert member in the Enquête Commission of the Bundestag „Future of Civic Involvement“ and is a member of various scientific advisory boards of Federal Ministries and Foundations on the subjects of participation of children and young people, development of democracy, civic involvement, integration and right-wing extremism. He is a co-founder of „DESI – Institute for Democratic Development and Social Integration“ (Berlin) and member of the Steering Committee of the Working Group „Civil Society and Democracy“ of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
