Matthias Spielkamp is co-founder and managing director of AlgorithmWatch, which was awarded the Theodor-Heuss-Medaille and nominated for a Grimme Online Award. He has been an expert on AI and robotics at several Bundestag hearings, and is a board member of Reporters Without Borders, a member of the board of trustees of Stiftung Warentest and of the advisory board of the German Internet Governance Forum (IGF-D). Spielkamp was a fellow of the ZEIT Foundation, Stiftung Mercator and the American Council on Germany. He holds master’s degrees in philosophy from the Freie Universität Berlin and in journalism from the University of Colorado and is the author and editor of books on Internet governance, the future of journalism and copyright. His journalistic contributions have appeared in MIT Technology Review, Die Zeit, brand eins and many other publications.
